Year 8 Students
Year 8 students will continue with learning the hiragana and katakana at the same time as per our Textbook method.
Students will have already have done the characters from the first four units. As such, attached to this page are the Obento Deluxe Characters with their memory stories as instructed in class. Students are encouraged to review the characters when they miss class or for revision to ensure they have understood the memory story and can write the characters on their own. The stroke order for each character is written in the sample given.
Students should write out these characters 20 times each, quite regularly, in order to get into the flow and feel of each character. This will ensure when writing whole words and sentences, that the characters do not feel strange or difficult to write but rather will be a natural pattern of writing.

Parents
We encourage you to learn the characters, or let your kids teach you!, so that you can feel you can support your child through their learning. Children feel a wonderful sense of accomplishment when they are able to navigate through our "secret alphabets" and sharing that journey with you makes it all the more special.
When students miss a class for whatever reason, these pages will be available for you to check whether or not we have learned new characters.
Encourage your children to use their Study Weapons too. Even just 10-15 mins a day can vastly increase the confidence of students in learning a second language.

You can use Quizlet through the web interface, or via the downloadable app. Both versions have the flashcards and slightly different versions of the games. If you play the games online, I will be able to see how often you are using Quizlet and how much you are improving.
How Do I Join Quizlet?
Joining Quizlet is very simple.
You need to Register with Quizlet first, and then find our Year 8 class by using the search. You will also have an e-mail from me with a direct link to joining the correct class if you cannot locate it on your own. Once you have joined, you will be able to go straight to our class. You will also get notifications when something in our Class is updated, for example, when I add a new set of cards or make changes. I am interested to hear just how much you find Quizlet helpful to you.
- it is mobile, you can study at home, on the bus, after basketball training, slouching in front of the TV - what this means...? No excuses!!
- your teacher will create sets of cards that are specific for our topic areas
- you can create your own sets independent of other sets that are loaded for you
- you can compete with your classmates to become the top of the heap - the one to beat
- it sends information back to your teacher about which words, characters, cards are the more difficult ones for you all, so that we can focus on these
- it keeps you connected to Japanese every day - only 15 mins a day will make all the difference to your knowledge and confidence
- it's completely FREE!
